Methodology
This page describes where every number on ASOsight comes from, how estimates are built, and what we refuse to do. It is written for people who have to trust the output.
Provenance on every metric
Each value is labelled Observed, Apple, Estimated or Inferred. Observed values are store-page snapshots with a timestamp. Apple values come from Apple APIs unchanged. Estimated values are model outputs with a low/base/high range and a confidence score. Inferred values are conclusions shown together with their evidence.
Keyword popularity
Search popularity comes from the Apple Ads insights API and is genuinely per storefront (1–100, Apple’s scale, unchanged). Apple publishes roughly the top 500 head terms per genre per storefront, so a blank cell means “not in Apple’s published set” — never “zero demand”. Suggestion popularity from the Apple Ads suggestions endpoint is global; we never present it as per-market. Where we derive a normalized demand score it is labelled “ASOsight Demand Score” and marked Estimated.
Download and revenue estimates
Estimates are deterministic models over public signals: rating volume and velocity, category, price and monetization type, storefront tier and app age. Each estimate is versioned and stored with its inputs; we never rewrite an estimate in place. The language model never computes a number. When you connect App Store Connect, your own numbers are shown with the Apple label and are never replaced by an estimate.
Deep research
Research collects public evidence first over plain HTTP, and only renders pages in an isolated browser when a page needs JavaScript. We honour robots.txt, identify ourselves as ASOsightResearch, never log in, never submit forms, and cap pages per job. Every claim in a report cites the source it was drawn from; claims without a source are dropped.
Freshness
Store metadata refreshes as pages are visited; keyword popularity follows Apple’s published reporting periods (month or week); research sources are re-read regularly. ASOsight combines official Apple API data, observed App Store signals, historical intelligence and proprietary models.
What we refuse to do
We do not show modeled values as facts. We do not fit numbers to look plausible. We do not change anything on your App Store listing automatically — a change set is applied only when you confirm it, through your own API key, and we measure the outcome on Apple’s data afterwards.
Data handling
Your App Store Connect key is encrypted with AES-256-GCM at rest and never displayed again. Your analytics are isolated per organisation at the database level (row-level security) and are never used to calibrate estimates for other customers unless you explicitly opt in.
